Committee Training Requirements to be Introduced in 2026

From late 2026, NSW Fair Trading will introduce annual training for strata committee members to help them understand their responsibilities and make informed decisions in their volunteer roles.

The training has been developed to be simple, practical and engaging.

Strata committee members play important roles in managing their scheme. The annual training will give committee members, whether new or long-standing, the essential knowledge, skills and capabilities they need to meet their responsibilities.

As a strata committee member, your decisions affect people’s homes, finances and daily lives. This short, online training will help you make informed decisions and manage the day-to-day running of your strata scheme, whether you are new to a committee or have prior experience.

This training will enable all strata committee members to:

  • understand your legal duties and the strata committee’s governance role
  • keep appropriate records of meetings, decisions and actions
  • recognise when to escalate issues

Strata committee members will need to complete a free one-hour NSW Fair Trading online course within 3 months of their appointment to the strata committee.

Over time, this training will help NSW strata committee members to feel confident navigating varied issues such as managing repairs and maintenance and resolving disputes within their scheme.

It will also support committee members to make informed decisions, manage risks and contribute to a well-run and financially sustainable strata scheme.

All strata committee members are expected to continue to complete training each year, or they will be unable to serve as a member on their strata committee.

Further information will be provided as the NSW Government releases additional information.
